We are creating a summer camp focused on your child’s happiness. Our three core values are…
Research indicates that children do best when given autonomy, or the feel that they are the ones primarily responsible for what happens to them in life. People who feel like they are in control of their lives feel like they are responsible for the good circumstances they face and that they can change the bad ones. It’s a feeling of power instead of helplessness.
When young people are afforded their natural autonomy, they are also given the space to form an authentic self concept. When external pressures to be this way or that way are removed, young people can begin to wrestle with who they want to be, instead of how they can change to be what other people want to be.
Once a young person knows who she is and knows that she can follow whatever her inner voice is telling her to do (so long as it is not dangerous to herself or others), she will naturally gravitate toward other people who share her values. You see, when everyone is free to associate with whomever they please regardless of age or gender, the process of finding lifelong friends is greatly expedited. We’ve seen huge reductions in negative behaviors as well, namely bullying, teasing, or intimidation.
